“O Lord. Make my tongue wholesome. Guide my heart aright and draw spite out of my bosom”.
This is one of my favorite duas.
I say it daily, and especially when things are a little trying. I love that there is a dua/prayer that gets it just right.
Make my tongue wholesome so that I don’t hurt people with my words. So that I don’t add to the drama in a situation (whether related or unrelated to me) and make things worse for me or for others. So that my words resolve a situation amicably rather than worsen it. So that people feel strengthened by my words, not weakened. So that people feel better about themselves with my words, not worse.
Guide my heart aright so that I take the right actions and steps that lead to a better future for myself, for those I love and for humanity in general. So that my actions don’t end up causing harm to others. So that I feel Your Grace in the path I take.![]()
Draw spite out of my bosom so that I can release the hurt, anger, resentment I feel against people who have hurt or harmed me in the past, whether imagined harm or real. So that I heal and don’t hurt others because of the pain inside me. So that the pain stops at my door and doesn’t pass on to others. So that the pain and hurt dissolve away, leaving me at peace. So that I am reminded daily to not take things that happen personally and add them to the baggage in my head and heart.
The entire translation is “My Lord! Accept my penitence. Wash away my sins. Answer my call. Establish my plea. Make my tongue wholesome. Guide my heart aright and draw spite out of my bosom.”
But my favorite part is the one highlighted above.![]()
